ReStore Volunteers
The ReStore is always looking for volunteers. By volunteering at the ReStore you are helping with the increasingly difficult task of fundraising. Our aim is to have the ReStore become so successful that we will not have to continually reach out to our community partners to fund our administration and home building programs.

Welcome to the Habitat ReStore! Your willingness to volunteer some of your valuable time allows us to operate the ReStore, and generate funds for Habitat for Humanity Seaway Valley. Your contribution has a direct impact on our ability to build homes and provides a public face for Habitat in SD&G. Without you, the volunteer, we would not be successful. Thank-you!
Getting Started
All volunteers are asked to fill in the volunteer application and sign a release from liability agreement. Also, volunteers are asked to sign a confidentiality agreement, standard procedure in volunteer organizations.

This position is responsible for greeting customers, answering their questions about location of an item (or having someone else tell them), ringing sales through the cash register, answering the phone, and keeping appropriate records as they relates to sales, the phone, and messages.
2) Shop/Sales This position is responsible for cleaning/sorting/pricing donations, accepting or rejecting donations that are being dropped off, and assisting on the sale floor.
3) Truck/Shop
This position is responsible for driving and/or riding in the truck for pick-up’s & deliveries, loading and unloading the truck, cleaning/sorting/pricing donations in the shop, and accepting or rejecting donations.
4) Special Projects
Periodically, we need people for our salvage crew - this means going into a building and stripping it of usable materials that we can sell at the ReStore. You would be working under the direct supervision of a safety coordinator. We also need occasional help with projects around the store like building sales racks, painting, re-organization, etc.
Volunteer Notes
1) Schedule/Hours of work We post a schedule each week. For the efficient running of the ReStore, we need volunteers who are available for 4 hour shifts, each week. We also need “on call” volunteers who can fill in when a regular volunteer is unavailable, or we have more than the usual amount of donations to process. All volunteer hours must be recorded on the sign in sheet located on the volunteer bulletin board.
2) Safety
Volunteers who are doing pick-up’s and deliveries, or lifting more than 20lbs, need to wear steel-toed shoes or boots. All other volunteers are to wear closed toe shoes or sneakers. Please be very careful when lifting and refuse any lift you are uncomfortable with.
3) Other
-
The phone is a very important part of our business. Please limit personal use.
-
Since we have limited parking we would ask volunteers to park away from the front of the store.
-
We do not have a dress code but if you have a Habitat shirt or a plain colored shirt, that would be best. We provide Habitat Aprons.
If you have any questions /concerns /comments, etc., please feel free to speak up. We want to make your experience at the ReStore a good one! Thanks again, for volunteering! restore@habitatseawayvalley.org
